Mitchell Owen is an Australian cricketer who plays for Tasmania cricket team and Hobart Hurricanes. He made his Twenty20 debut on 12 January 2021 for the Hurricanes in the 2020–21 Big Bash League. His List A debut came on 22 February 2021 for Tasmania in the 2020–21 Marsh One-Day Cup. 

Owen made his first-class debut on 3 October 2023 against South Australia cricket team in the 2023–24 Sheffield Shield. His BBL success led to a call-up to the Australian national cricket team T20I squad in June 2025 for the tour of the West Indies. Owen followed this with a 149 off 69 balls for Tasmania in the One-Day Cup. He also plays for franchise leagues such as the SA20 and Pakistan Super League.

Mitchell Owen earned his first state contract in 2020 after scoring 415 runs at an average of 60. He made two centuries and a 93, for Tasmania cricket team in the 2019–20 Under-19 National Championships. At the same time, Owen had a breakout season for Premier League club New Town Cricket Club in 2019–20, scoring 781 runs and taking 18 wickets.

In the 2024–25 BBL season, Owen scored 101 not out off 64 balls with five sixes and nine fours to lead the Hurricanes to an eight-wicket win over the Perth Scorchers. On 27 January 2025, he equalled the record for the fastest BBL century in the final. He scored 108 off 42 balls with 11 sixes against the Sydney Thunder, securing the Hurricanes’ first BBL title.

Mitchell Owen Personal Life

Mitch Owen grew up loving the Hobart Hurricanes and never missed a home game as a kid. A mural of him as a 13-year-old fan is displayed at Cricket Tasmania’s stadium. Now 24, he plays for the Hurricanes and Tasmanian Tigers. He started as a junior off-spin bowler but switched to medium pace around six years ago. Owen had a big first-grade season with New Town, scoring 781 runs and taking 18 wickets, which earned him a state contract at 19.

He’s had a breakthrough in BBL|14, opening the batting and scoring an unbeaten 101 against Perth Scorchers. He finished the season with 452 runs at a strike rate of 203.60 and hit 36 sixes. Owen models parts of his game after Beau Webster but is also building his own identity.

Mitchell Owen was signed by Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 as a replacement for the injured Glenn Maxwell. He joined for Rs 3 Crore. Owen had a big BBL 2024-25 season, scoring 452 runs at an average of 45.20 and strike rate of 203.60. He hit a fast century of 108 off 42 balls in the final, helping Hobart Hurricanes win their first BBL title. He also scored 149 off 69 balls for Tasmania in the Marsh One Day Cup.
