Ben Curran’s Personal Life
Ben Curran is the son of former Zimbabwe cricketer Kevin Curran and the middle brother of England internationals Tom and Sam Curran. While Tom and Sam made their names playing for England, Ben chose to represent Zimbabwe, the country where his father was born.
Ben was born in Northampton when his father was playing county cricket in England. The family later moved back to Zimbabwe, where they grew up around cricket because their dad was involved in coaching. Even though cricket was always around them, Kevin never forced his sons into the game. He simply encouraged them to enjoy sport and work hard if they wanted to take it seriously.
When Kevin passed away in 2012, the brothers were still young. Their mother, Sarah, played a big role in supporting their careers after that. All three boys had earlier gone to school in England on scholarships, and they stayed there to continue their cricket development.
Unlike Tom and Sam, Ben did not find quick success. He admits things did not move as fast for him. He had to wait longer for professional chances and did not have big early achievements. Ben says he does not worry too much about comparisons with his brothers.
He understands people talk about it because of the family name, but he believes everyone has their own path. He feels the timing is right for him. He is proud to represent Zimbabwe and is determined to build his own identity in international cricket, separate from his brothers’ achievements.
