India’s spearhead speedster Jasprit Bumrah once again proved why he is the best T20 fast bowler in the world.
In the IND vs SA Super Eight match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the Gujarat-born pacer held South Africa’s innings on Sunday night in Ahmedabad while other Indian bowlers struggled to contain the Protea batters.
On a night where even Varun Chakravarthy went for almost 12 runs an over, Bumrah retained his bankability trait to return with outstanding bowling figures of 3/15 in his spell of four overs. During this process, he went past R Ashwin to become India’s highest wicket-taker at the men’s ICC T20 World Cup.
Both teams kicked off their Super 8 journey with Aiden Markram winning the toss and electing to bat first on a black soil pitch in Ahmedabad.
India attained the upper hand as Bumrah castled Quinton de Kock and had Ryan Rickelton caught off a slower one. Sandwiched between those two dismissals was the wicket of Markram, who chipped to mid-off off Arshdeep Singh.
The Proteas were reeling at 20/3. However, David Miller and Dewald Brevis counterattacked spectacularly. The duo blasted 97 runs off 51 balls.
Brevis holed out in the deep off Shivam Dube, and a 35-run stand between Miller and Stubbs was ended by Chakaravarthy.
The Indian bowlers once again got on top, with Arshdeep and Bumrah eking out a wicket each. South Africa got the momentum into the mid-innings as Stubbs whacked Hardik Pandya for 20 runs in the last over to take his side to 187/7.
