5 Big Exclusions From India Squad For Asia Cup: BCCI announced the Indian Cricket Team squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. This will be the first time the team will play T20I cricket after the 2025 season of the IPL. After a long summer of Test cricket in England, it is now upon the Men in Blue in colour to bring home glory.
India announced a 15-man squad led by India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav. It is a strong squad filled with T20 specialists and some of the best cricketers in the world. This team is surely the overwhelming favourite to defend its Asia Cup title.
Here is the Indian Cricket Team squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 –
Suryakumar Yadav (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Sanju Samson (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh
As can be seen, there are a lot of changes from the squad that played five Test matches in England. These changes are mostly down to the change in format. However, there are a few surprising exclusions from this team. Today, we will discuss those who missed out on this squad. Here are 5 big exclusions from India squad for Asia Cup 2025:
5 Big Exclusions From India Squad For Asia Cup
5) Mohammed Siraj
Siraj has emerged as a proper all-format bowler for India in recent years. Most recently, he showed why he is a massive asset in Test cricket with his ability to bowl mega spells. Meanwhile, in limited-overs cricket, he can just catch fire at any moment and rattle the opposition.
Siraj does not seem to be in the national team’s T20I plans, which isn’t too surprising, seeing that this is his weakest format. However, he had a decent IPL, where he took 16 wickets in 15 matches for the Gujarat Titans. Couple that with his stature in Indian cricket, and his exclusion becomes surprising.
4) Sai Sudharsan
Sai Sudharsan has played only a single T20I in his career, which was against Zimbabwe in 2024. He missed the T20 action for the Indian Cricket Team earlier this year and has never been considered a part of the regular squad. So what makes his exclusion from this Asia Cup 2025 squad surprising?
Well, Sudharsan was the Orange Cap winner in IPL 2025. In most cases, the Orange Cap winner makes their way into the national side. And for a young batter to win the award and not make it into the squad for the first T20s the national team will play after the IPL is certainly strange.

3) Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal is in the reserves of the Indian Cricket Team for the Asia Cup 2025. However, his inclusion is baffling, to say the least. Jaiswal is a true all-format batter for India but has never been preferred for T20Is, despite his style suiting the format well.
Jaiswal had a solid IPL season, making 559 runs in 14 matches for the Rajasthan Royals at a strike rate of almost 160. Even when playing ODIs and Test cricket, he gives his team explosive starts, a lot like T20s. He is well-suited for the format, but maybe not the national team in the format.
2) Prasidh Krishna
Prasidh Krishna made it to the Indian Cricket Team for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England on the basis of his IPL 2025 performances. Playing for the Gujarat Titans, the Karnataka-based pacer took 25 wickets in 15 matches, winning the Purple Cap.
However, his IPL performances, coupled with decent performances in Tests against the Three Lions, did not grant him a place in the Asia Cup 2025 squad, the first T20I matches India will play after the IPL.
1) Shreyas Iyer
Iyer’s exclusion from the squad has caused quite a stir among the fans. Shreyas Iyer has had an excellent year in domestic cricket, which was topped by his incredible IPL 2025 performances. Captaining the Punjab Kings, Iyer scored 604 runs in 17 matches, often playing big innings to pull his team out of a hole.
Not only was he PBKS’ highest run scorer, but he also captained the franchise to only their second ever IPL final in 18 years. So when he was not picked for the Test tour to England, some fans objected. But many claimed that he should not be picked for a Test series for performances in T20s. But now, his exclusion from the Asia Cup 2025 squad is raising many questions.
