2 Changes India Are Likely To Make For 4th Test: Team India suffered a heartbreaking 22-run defeat in the IND vs ENG 3rd Test at Lord’s. India failed to chase the target of 193 runs, as Ravindra Jadeja ran out of partners and was left stranded at his end for 61*.
Despite KL Rahul’s century and Jasprit Bumrah’s five-for in the first innings, India had failed to take a lead in the first innings, with Rishabh Pant’s run-out at the stroke of lunch on day 3 arguably being the turning point of the match.
England captain Ben Stokes powered his team throughout the Lord’s Test with crucial contributions in all three departments, including effecting Pant’s run-out.
This loss, after a defeat in Leeds and a win in Edgbaston, left India trailing the five-Test India vs England series by 2-1 with two more matches to go.
The India vs England 4th Test will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester from July 23. India are likely to ring in a couple of changes to the side that lost at Lord’s.
IND vs ENG 4th Test: 2 Changes India Are Likely To Make For 4th Test
Karun Nair Out, Dhruv Jurel/ Sai Sudharsan In
Returning to the Indian Test team after eight years, Karun Nair has managed 131 runs in six innings at an average of 21. He’s got good starts in a couple of knocks but failed to convert them into a substantial total.
He could make way for either Sai Sudharsan or Dhruv Jurel in the 4th Test. At Lord’s, Jurel was required to take up the wicket-keeping duties after Rishabh Pant hurt the index finger of his left hand during the 34th over of England’s first innings. Jurel donned the gloves for the rest of the Test.
While India captain Shubman Gill has said that Pant “should be fine” for the 4th Test, it’s uncertain that he would be able to keep wicket. India may opt to play Pant as a pure batsman and get Jurel in the lineup in place of Nair.
If Pant keeps his position as a wicket-keeper, then India could be tempted to play Sudharsan in Manchester. The left-hander made his Test debut in Leeds and managed scores of 0 and 30.
Akash Deep Out, Arshdeep Singh In
Pacer Akash Deep seemed to have picked up some issues with his back during the Lord’s Test. Although he did bowl and bat, India would want to be cautious with another pacer’s back injury.
Deep can be replaced by either Prasidh Krishna or Arshdeep Singh. Given that Krishna had a forgettable time in the first two tests—six wickets at an average of 55 and an economy of 5.33—Arshdeep, who would give a point of difference with his left-arm angle and ability to swing the ball, could get the nod in Manchester.
With the series on the line and a gap of eight days, Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to be rested for the IND vs ENG 4th Test.
